Shmoop

Shmoop is an excellent source for literature and poetry study guides. Literature study guides will make current day connections to the classics to help students relate better to the books. An example of this is comparing concepts of the Great Gatsby to MTV Cribs show. Contains almost all the books read in the high school English classrooms.

The Orwell Prize- His Diary Online

The Orwell Prize- His Diary Online- Since 9th August 2008, this site has been blogging George Orwell’s diaries from 1938 in real time, 70 years to the day since each entry was originally written. The diaries start as Orwell heads to Morocco (with his wife Eileen) to recuperate from injury and illness, and end in 1942 (or 2012) as the Second World War rages.

In addition to the diary entries, there are images and documents complementing the diaries available here, and a Google Map of Orwell’s travels here.

Example of an Edited Paper

Check out how the editor of Vanity Fair edited Sarah Palin's poorly constructed resignation speech. Would be a great example when teaching students about editing.
